WordPress cookies and new EU legislation

I’m reading about the new EU legislation and the European “opt-out system” versus the Dutch “opt-in system”. The latter more severe and calling for action before 2013.

The DDMA (Dutch Dialogue Marketing Association) has a manual in English available that informs about cookies and the new Dutch law. Download pdf DDMA Navigating New European Cookie Legislation 2012 ‘How to Comply From Now On’ Cookie rules in Dutch law. In addition Solv lawyers are sharing a white paper cookies (download in pdf) in English. Consult perhaps also : http://www.cookierecht.nl/ and http://blog.iusmentis.com/2012/05/25/mag-google-analytics-nog-onder-de-cookiewet.

WordPress would not be WordPress without a plugin that can solve a problem. This one is already available : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookillian/

We can wait and see if alternatives become available in this year. In due course I will publish a second post with a concrete tip, recommendation how to go about with the new ‘cookiewet’.

Wikipedia : “A cookie, also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is usually a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user’s web browser while a user is browsing a website. When the user browses the same website in the future, the data stored in the cookie can be retrieved by the website to notify the website of the user’s previous activity”.
